When my parents sought help for my childhood distress, they were given an ultimatum: affirm my transition or prepare for a funeral. Like thousands of families, we fell victim to a manipulative narrative used by medical institutions to justify irreversible procedures. Years after my age-15 mastectomy, I came to realize that no medical intervention could fix the underlying loneliness I felt—and that true healing required accepting who I was created to be.
