Governor Lee has proclaimed a day of Prayer and Fasting to be held October 10, 2019, across Tennessee. To help Tennessee’s Christians operate in unity on this day of prayer and fasting, we have made a prayer guide.
8:00 – Thank and worship the Lord Jesus. He is the Lord of Tennessee and is the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE.
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:9-10
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name… My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth… But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.”
Psalm 63
“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High… When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever: But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.”
Psalm 92:1;7-8
9:00 – Pray for strengthening of the Lord in your family. Then, pray that families would be strengthened across all of Tennessee.
“And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers…”
Malachi 4:6
Pray for fathers and mothers to seek after the Lord for wisdom in raising their children, and that they would actively instruct their children in righteousness as it is taught in Scripture. Pray for broken families to be restored.
10:00 – Pray for strengthening of the Lord in your community and local church. Then pray for the same across the state of Tennessee.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:25
11:00 – Pray for strengthening of your relationship with your neighbors.
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31
Pray that the Lord would give Christians influence with their neighbors and that many would come to the Lord through sharing of the gospel through this channel.
12:00 – Pray for Life
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
John 1:3-4
Pray for efforts to create a prolife culture in Tennessee, including the end of abortion in Tennessee. SB1236 is a current bill that could end all legal abortion in Tennessee. Ask the Lord to guide those involved in pro-life ministries across our state. Pray for protection and guidance as they minister. Pray for women who are hurting from the affects of abortion.
1:00 – Pray for courts and judges in Tennessee.
Pray for righteous judgements in all of our courts. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
James 1:5
State level courts include courts of limited jurisdiction: General Sessions Courts, Municipal Courts, and Juvenile Courts.
Federal courts in Tennessee include Western, Middle and Eastern Districts.
Pray for the 6th Circuit Court, and the US Supreme Court, which hear cases appealed to them from Tennessee.
2:00 – Pray for members of the House of Representatives in the General Assembly and for the eight House Delegation members Tennessee sends to Congress.
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2
3:00 – Pray for members of the State Senate and for our two US Senators, Marsha Blackburn and Lamar Alexander.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same. For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
Romans 13:1-4
4:00 – Pray for your church’s pastors and pastors across Tennessee.
“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”
Titus 1:9
May God protect their families and use them to proclaim God’s whole truth to their congregations.
5:00 – Pray for wisdom for prominent leaders in Tennessee’s government: Governor Bill Lee, Lt. Governor Randy McNally and Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton.
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”
Proverbs 21:1
